OzRenaultsport Drive Day – 20 July 2014

September 11, 2014 10:54 pm

With five months between drinks, the Sydney OzRenaultsport contingent were eagre for a social drive day and a huge number signed up online to take part. I met with the inner west crew at the usual meeting spot, before making tracks for the official meet up at the Loftus Oval car park:

Buddy, the F1-star:

Upon arriving at Loftus Oval, we were greeted with a scene of sheer Renaultsport nirvana. The car park was brimming with Clios and Meganes of all ages and colours and was still filling:

By my count there were almost 50 cars, so leaving the car park one at a time to drive up to the Royal National Park entrance took quite a while:

Taking the photos, I was the last in line but that gave me a great vantage point to watch the conga line of Renaultsports snaking through the famous corners and scenery of the Royal National Park:

Once safely through the Natio, we reconvened at Stanwell Tops, with a stunning view down the coast towards Wollongong:

From Stanwell Tops, the destination was Robertson Pie Shop at the top of Macquarie and Jamberoo Passes. Given the sheer number of cars, it was always going to be a challenge to keep everyone together. People formed natural groups and split up along the drive along the freeway, the exit towards Mount Keira (and subsequent detour) and finally, staggered arrival times at the pie shop. It seemed various groups had taken the alternate routes of Macquarie Pass and Jamberoo Pass. I took the former and had a relatively clean run up the endless, smooth turns of Mac Pass. In the end, we all made it to Robertson in time to regale different travel stories:

Everyone grabbed a pie and the banter continued outside, checking out each other’s cars and latest mods, and general automotive chit-chat.

This signified the end of the formal part of the day. People split up and headed their separate ways, some opting for more driving further into Kangaroo Valley while others did a few laps of Macquarie Pass. Once again, another great morning with the friendly folk of the OzRenaultsport community and we’re looking forward to the next drive day that they host.
