Porsche NSW Concours – 20 October 2013

March 29, 2014 2:49 pm

2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911. And the Porsche Club of NSW’s Concours afforded fans the chance to explore the evolution of arguably history’s most iconic car.

Held at Newington Armory in Silverwater on a rather hot day in late October the event offered different classes allowing owner’s to show 911s tailored to their personal tastes. This striking Riviera Blue example attracting its fair share of attention.

Of course, being a Porsche concours, there was an array of flawlessly presented machines:

Including this very early Targa – its period orange paintwork a welcome sight from the white/silver/grey and black all too common on modern models:

Equally impressive was this Light Yellow 2.7 RS replica:

Stepping up in performance, this 964 Carrera RS failed to escape attention, despite its sleeper appearance:

Much unlike the 993 Carrera RS, which proudly announces its performance credentials:

Racing is very much part of the 911’s DNA. Fittingly, we have two GT3 variants to conclude our photographic essay of the 911’s evolution; this 996 – evidencing the meticulous judging occurring as we roamed the event:

And the purposeful looking 997.2:

Whilst the 911 comes to mind when you think Porsche, it all began with the 356. Undoubtedly, and we’re
sure you would agree, this Speedster was the most beautiful car on display:

Not far behind was this 912 – not a bad effort for what was essentially a ‘budget’ 911:

Porsche once experimented putting the engine in front of its vehicles, producing among others the 924 Carrera GT:

About the time the FR platform was abandoned a mid-engined model, the Boxster, was announced. Today’s 981 series can be extensively optioned:

Regardless of the engine’s location Porsches are well respected for their motorsport abilities, and the Concours’ Race Car category was rightfully filled:

Rounding out the event was a Show & Shine, exhibiting such rarities as this 1980s 911 Speedster:

Another 993 Carrera RS:

And this 993 TurboS:

The 2014 event is scheduled for 31 August. The Club’s website will provide details closer to the date.  A worthwhile event for any Porsche fan, allowing them close access to an almost all-encompassing buffet of the  marque’s best.
